India Cuts Nigerian Oil Imports, Turns To US

India imported less Nigerian crude oil last month on the back of outages in a couple of major streams such as Bonny Light and Forcados.

Also, Asian buyers opted to take light sweet United States’ oil rather than Nigerian, Reuters reported on Monday.

India’s monthly oil imports from Nigeria declined by about 34 per cent to about 279,000 bpd, according to data from the industry and shipping sources.

Overall India’s monthly oil imports in August rose by 3.1 per cent to about 4.7 million barrels, while they were up 15.8 per cent from a year earlier, the data showed.

India’s imports of the US oil in August rose to a record 275,000 bpd, accounting for about six per cent of its overall purchases.

India refiners had booked the US oil cargoes in June when discount between the US crude future and Brent, the international benchmark, was wide enough to make arbitrage economics feasible for India.

Iraq replaced Saudi Arabia in August as the top oil supplier to India, the data showed, as refiners turned to Iraqi barrels to compensate for a lower intake of Iranian oil ahead of the US sanctions in November.

The US is re-imposing sanctions on Iran following Washington’s decision in May to withdraw from a 2015 international deal aimed at curbing Tehran’s nuclear programme.

While some sanctions were implemented from August 6, those affecting Iran’s petroleum sector take effect only from November 4.

Imports of Iranian oil by India, Tehran’s top oil client after China, fell by about a third to about 523,000 bpd in August from July as state refiners slowed purchases due to a delay in securing government approval to use Iranian ships.

Eaglets beat hosts Niger Republic, will face Ghana’s Starlets for ticket to Tanzania

Abuja – Nigeria were 2-1 winners over hosts Niger Republic on Wednesday in Niamey to book a date with Ghana and rekindle a 67-year-old Nigeria-Ghana rivalry.

The victory ensured the Golden Eaglets will take on the Black Starlets in Niamey on Saturday for a place in the 2019 Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations finals billed for Tanzania.

The Eaglets kept their heads and did the hard work they had to do by beating hosts Niger Republic 2-1 in a very competitive match at the General Seyni Kountche Stadium.

It was sweet revenge for the five-time world champions, as the Nigerien side had knocked out the Eaglets from the 2017 Africa Under-17 finals on a 3-2 aggregate.

That was when the home-and-away leg contests still held sway in the African qualifiers.

Following a change in the old format, countries in each of Africa’s six football regions now gather in one venue to take part in qualifying tournaments.

Organizers Reveal Why Davido’s U.S Performance Was Cancelled 

Popular Nigerian singer, Davido’s planned performance at the United States of America on Saturday has been postponed indefinitely.

Organizers of the Dreamville Festival, in which Davido was expected to perform in Raleign, North Carolina, U.S., postponed the show indefinitely due to “Hurricane Florence”.

This is following a warning by the U.S. National Hurricane Centre to residents of a triple threat of Hurricane Florence in Carolina described as `a life-threatening storm surge’.

The Hurricane is expected to hit Carolina on Thursday, and over 1.5 Million people have been evacuated since the announcement of its advancement.

The indefinite postponement of the Festival was announced by the organisers on their Instagram handle @Dreamville.

They added that monies would be refunded to those that bought tickets.

“Due to safety concerns regarding dangerous weather, we are extremely saddened to announce today that the inaugural Dreamville Festival 2018 with Davido been cancelled.

“Our team has been working tirelessly with officials from the City of Raleigh, along with our state and Federal partners, among others, to monitor the potential negative impact of Hurricane Florence.

“With the current weather-related information at hand, we have together decided to cancel this year’s event for the ultimate safety of both local citizens and Festival attendees.

“Rest assured we are doing everything our power to make this event happen at a later time and we hope to share details regarding a possible new event date as soon as we possibly can,” the organisers said.

The festival which is the inaugural edition was slated to hold on Saturday at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh North Carolina. The one-day festival offers attendees a special celebration of music, culture, food and art, along with performance from J.cole himself.

Meanwhile, Davido was expected to perform alongside Big Sean, Young Thug, Teyena Taylor, Bas, Nelly and SZA, as well as the Festival creator J Cole, his manager Ibrahim Hamad and a host of artists.

BREAKING!! Apple Unveils 3 New Iphone Xs: Iphone XS, Iphone XS Max & Iphone XR (Photos)

The company announced on Wednesday its largest smartphone ever: the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max. The Max has a larger display than the usual Plus size phones but a similar body.

Apple also showed off a 5.8-inch iPhone XS ($999) and the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max ($1,449) — its most expensive iPhone ever.

The cameras on the phones are, as usual, “better than ever before,” said Apple exec Phil Schiller, who has uttered the same words at previous events. The new 12 megapixel cameras have bigger sensors and an improved HDR mode.

Both devices have a longer battery life than the original iPhone X. The iPhone XS will have 30 more minutes of battery life, and the iPhone XS Max will last up to an hour and a half longer.

Apple surprised with a third smartphone, the “lower-end” iPhone XR ($749). The 6.1-inch features a bright LCD screen and comes in a variety of colors, including white, black, blue, coral and red. It’s missing a home button and is activated by swiping up.

The device only has one camera — a 12 pixel wide-angle camera — but Apple added a similar portrait feature found in its dual camera devices, which blurs the background. The device kills the 3D touch feature but added some haptic feedback, so the screen vibrates a bit in response to touch.

The phones have faster networking support. Travelers will be happy to hear they’ll have more bands for better roaming and dual SIM capabilities to support multiple plans and two phone numbers on one device.

The iPhone X line also packs augmented reality tools to have more realistic graphics and object reflections.

In addition, the company unveiled an upgraded Apple Watch. The Series 4 has a 30% larger edge-to-edge display and is thinner. It has more reliable reception and is two times faster. The new watch also has greater focus on health. It can predict when you fall and send that data to an emergency contact.

The new Apple Watch comes with a built-in (and FDA-approved) EKG to help diagnose heart diseases and other conditions, making it the first EKG device available over the counter, according to Apple.

Pricing and availability

The iPhone XS Max — with 512 GB of storage — will be the most expensive iPhone ever. Meanwhile, the iPhone XS will cost the same as last year’s iPhone X ($999). The original iPhone X is now $200 cheaper.

Apple will continue to sell the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 in regular and Plus sizes. The cheapest phone in the iPhone line up is the iPhone 7, starting at $449. The iPhone 8 starts at $599.

The iPhone XS and XS Max will be available to pre-order on Friday September 14, and ship Friday September 21 in the US and other countries.

You’ll be able to pre-order the iPhone XR beginning Friday, October 19, and it will hit stores on Friday, October 26, in more than 50 countries.

The Apple Watch Series 4 will cost $499 for built-in connectivity and $399 for a standard model. It will be available for pre-order starting Friday and ship Friday September 21.

Military denies recapture of Damasak, neutralizes scores of insurgents

The Military authorities on Thursday denied some media report that some group of Boko Haram sect have succeeded in recapturing Damasak, the Headquarters of Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno state 24 hours after the visit of Chief of Army Staff, Leut. General Tukur Buratai.

The statement reads: “Attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a publication on the social media by SAHARA REPORTERS 12 September 2018 titled “BOKO HARAM CAPTURES DAMASAK 24 HOURS AFTER BURATAI’S
VISIT.

“Nigerian Army wishes to state categorically that, the claim is not only untrue but capable of misleading members of the general public and the world at large.

“In the said story, the report stated inter alia that, Damasak is the location of 134 Battalion. The Nigerian Army wishes to state that, there was no such battalion in Damasak.

“The Nigerian Army earlier released a statement that, troops of 145 Battalion in DAMASAK, Borno State are engaging Boko Haram Terrorists who came to attract their location at about 6pm on 12 September 2018.The statement also stated that “fierce battle on going right now and the troops are dealing with the terrorists. Further details later.

“The troops engaged and subdued the terrorists following a superior fire power of troops in DAMASAK. The troops aggressive posture, tactics and marksmanship resulted in neutralizing many Boko Haram Terrorists.

“Consequently, the Nigerian Army wishes to state that the fight against Boko Haram Terrorists in the North Eastern parts of the the country is yielding positive result.

“The Nigerian Army therefore advised members of the public particularly residents of the affected areas to go about their legitimate businesses and disregard the said report, as the Nigerian Army will continue to protect lives and property of citizens at all times.

EPL: Michael Owen predicts result of Tottenham vs Liverpool

Former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker, Michael Owen has predicted that Liverpool will beat Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday’s Premier League fixture.

Owen expects Jurgen Klopp’s men to defeat Spurs this weekend.

Tottenham head to the game following a 2-1 defeat against Watford in their last game, while Liverpool won 2-1 against Leicester City.

Speaking in an interview with BetVictor, Owen said: “This is a real test of Liverpool’s title credentials and a win at Wembley will go a long way to proving their doubters wrong.

Lagos APC Breaks Silence On Adoption Of Governorship Candidate

The Lagos State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday said it had not adopted any governorship aspirant as its candidate for the 2019 elections.

The Chairman of the chapter’s Elders’ Forum, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He was reacting to media reports that the chapter had adopted an aspirant, Mr Jide Sanwoolu, the incumbent Managing Director of Lagos State Property Development Corporation (LSPDC), as its gubernatorial candidate.

NAN reports that Mr James Odumbaku, the immediate past Vice-Chairman of the party in the state and an ally of Chief Bola Tinubu, was reported to have claimed in a video on Tuesday that Sanwoolu had been adopted as the incoming governor.

Odumbaku, who was with Sanwoolu and other chieftains at a meeting in the video, said all the 57 council chairmen had endorsed the LSPDC boss as candidate, claiming the adoption was at the instance of Asiwaju Tinubu.

NAN reports that Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, had on Monday, declared his intention to run for another term.

A former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, had also declared his aspiration for the number one seat in the state.

Olusi described the purported adoption of Sanwoolu to puncture the second term bid of Ambode as mere speculation.

He said the party could not have resolved to hold a primary when it had adopted an aspirant.

“All these things are speculations. They are not true, How can we plan to hold a primary to elect our candidates and then adopt somebody?

“If we are still going to hold our primary, why then should we adopt, or does the adoption cancel the primary? No.

“This is the political season, all interesting things happen, but I can tell you most of the things that have been reported on the matter are mere speculations and not facts. Nobody has directed any adoption,” he said.

Olusi, while referring to the video,said it was normal for individuals or groups to back or endorse aspirants ahead of any election.

He, however, said such endorsements should not be taken to be the position of the party.

Olusi said the determination of who would become the gubernatorial candidate of the party would only be done at the primary.

He described the APC as a democratic party, saying all aspirants would be allowed a level-playing field.

On the feasibility of holding a direct primary at the chapter in view of the large numbers of party members, Olusi said there was no cause for alarm.

He said the right preparations were being done, expressing optimism that everything would go well during the exercise.

Olusi said he would not comment on the controversies emanating from adopting different modes of primary in some APC state chapters.

“Honestly, I do not want to comment on that. However, we are a growing democracy and we learn everyday,’’ he said

Police nab 2 suspected cable wire vandals in Delta, recover N800,000, handsets

The police detectives at Agbor police Division, Delta State, on Wednesday arrested two young men in the area for allegedly stealing cable wires worth millions of Naira.

They also recovered the sum of N800,000, several handsets and pliers from the suspects.

They were said to have been arrested in Ime Obi quarters in Agbor while they were about to transport the allegedly stolen items out of the area in a vehicle without a plate number.

The police officers at Agbor police Division, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the suspects: Monday Ahie and Lucky Jegbefume were caught by the vigilante members in the area, who handed them over to the police detectives.

The police commissioner in the state, Mustafa Muhammad while confirming the arrest of the suspects, said that he has ordered their transfer to the state CID for further investigation.

He said “the police in Agbor were ordered to transfer the suspects to the state CID for further investigation; we have arrested several of them in Agbor communities, especially vandals, it’s not going to be business as usual, except the criminals relocate elsewhere and not Delta State. The suspects, upon completion of investigation, will be charged to court”.

APC Reacts After Governor Fayose Offered To Submit Himself To EFCC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti on Wednesday described  as  suspicious and  diversionary  the offer by the outgoing governor, Ayodele Fayose,  to voluntarily surrender himself to the EFCC on the day he would be  vacating office.

The APC insisted that the outgoing governor was  planning to seek safe landing to enable him run away from the country.

The party, through its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, questioned the rationale behind Fayose’s request for the approval of N10 billion extra budget by the state House of Assembly less than one month to the expiration of his tenure.

”This will certainly be at the expense of the welfare of the pensioners and workers  who he will be abandoning in a state of penury and frustration due to months of unpaid salaries

”Fayose and his cronies are recklessly looting the state treasury and they are smiling home with billions of Naira at the expense of Ekiti tax payers,” the party said.

The party, which described   Fayose’s readiness to appear before the EFCC as a welcome development, however, warned that this may be a decoy  ”knowing Fayose is full of pranks and capable of playing tricks on the EFCC and other security agencies.’’

”The letter to the EFCC can be used by Fayose as a distraction and diversionary tactic  to pave way for his escape from the country, thereby running away from justice.

“Fayose’s promise to appear before the anti-graft agency on the handover day sounds too good to be true and highly suspicious

” We therefore recommend that he be put under serious close surveillance  since he is morally and duty bound to account for many of his recklessly corrupt practices that have made him billions of state money richer than the state itself

”No matter how smart Fayose thinks he is and no matter how fast he thinks he can run, the long arm of the law must catch up with him to refund our collective wealth and money for the benefit of all in our dear state, Ekiti,’’  the party  said.

Real Madrid set aside €372million to sign Ronaldo’s replacement

Real Madrid have reportedly put aside a €372million budget, to sign their next galactico player.

Having lost Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus, the Spanish giants are desperate to bring in a new superstar player.

AS reports that the money apparently was “saved for an operation that never came to pass”, after prospective moves for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe were deemed impossible by Real’s transfer executives over the summer.

It is understood that there are still plans to sign one or maybe two marquee names, when the transfer window opens up again.

Mariano Diaz, a Real Madrid striker,  has explained why he chose to wear former Los Blancos forward, Cristiano Ronaldo’s No. 7 jersey at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Recall that Diaz was signed by Real from Lyon during the summer transfer window and was given the iconic jersey number.

In an interview with Cadena COPE, the 25-year-old explained his reason for choosing the ex-Los Blancos all-time highest goalscorer jersey number.

“I don’t think it matters much. Does it add some pressure? Sure. But it was free and it’s a number I like and a challenge for me,” Diaz said.

“I’m happy to wear that number after so many legends like Amancio, Juanito, Butragueño, Raul…I saw them play when I was young. And Ronaldo, sure. It was free for someone to take, every Madrid fan knows it and they asked me what number I was going to take.
